I Need A Wet Suit To Ride With Rodney

I don’t get many chances to ride in one of the bass boats. So when the opportunity to fish with Rodney came up, I was looking forward to it.

We came into Ed’s harbor about the same time as the rest of the guys. They were standing around the docks watching us come in to tie up. So far it was uneventful, but that was about to change.

We pull up to the wall and Rod cuts the engine. I kneel down to catch the wall to tie off, being very careful to avoid the poles laying on the bow of the boat. I get my hand on the tie off cleat and all is well. I look back to see Rod pulling the stern closer to the wall. As he does that, the bow begins to separate from the wall and move away. Two things came to my realization about the same time. One, the chasm between the boat and wall was widening. And two, I rapidly lost the leverage to pull myself back into the boat from my extended lean. Yep, tuck, twist, and hold your breath …………….splash!! Let me confirm something for you. The water in the Saint Lawrence in springtime is quite, ah, refreshing. I bounced off the bottom and got my feet under me and shot up through the water like a shot out of a cannon. Someone gave me a hand and pulled me up onto the dock and I waddled the rest of the way to Ed’s cottage.

Why Kris chose that moment to hit the bathroom, I’ll never know. "uh, Kris do you think you could squeeze one off?, we have a situation here !!!"

With Rodney around, anything can happen. I now carry a wet suit on the trips.

Boat Partner that Day,
