 Our New Digs
Fall 2009

We have a new gathering place, less than a ½ mile down the St. Lawrence River from Ed’s.  It’s called Sunny Banks.  A collection of residential trailers with a rental cottage right in the middle. The owner, Art, didn’t seem to cringe when asked if he could handle 12 guys, 5 boats and trucks, and a pop-up camper. “just don’t make me come down late at night to shut you up”.  I guess we passed that test because we didn’t see Art until pack-up day. The natives seemed friendly enough with hello’s, waves, and “hows’ the fishing?”. One of our members overheard this conversation between neighbors.... “what’s going on?”, “I think it’s some sort of fishing club”.  After a day or two I think they thought we were the weekend's entertainment. An injection of a Tsunamis into Tranquility.

Our two new rookies, Gary (the Texas agitator) Keyes and Roger (the observer) Holtz, seemed to have held up well enough, although Gary added nose plugs to his packing list...way to go Dave. I guess that’s one way to earn a club patch.

And speaking of Dave, our El Presidente, seems to be getting a little ornery these past trips.   One little complaint, comment, or funny look and he says go pick up the club briefcase, you’re the new pres.  I hope he’s just kidding, because he knows we would soon become the “Sons of Anarchy”.

We got the usual array of weather, wind, rain, cold, warm & sunny.  The fishing seemed to go about the same way.  Even though it was up and down, I think everyone caught something, yeah, even me.  I liked watching Rich bring in a nice 4+ lb smallmouth. Rich is deadly swinging a spinner-bait.  We had plenty of fish to fry and bag for another day.

We brought everything we could think of for this unknown first trip to Sunny Banks - tables, chairs, pots & pans, dishes, cups, grills, lanterns and even a TV just to be safe.  We did pretty good as to know what to bring the next time. Oh yeah, BATHROOM SPRAY, will now be in capitals on someone's list.

And thus begins our winter hibernation until May.
